Louise Dahl-Wolfe A Style of H

Published to coincide with the Louise Dahl-Wolfe: a Style of her Own exhibition.

This book explores Louise Dahl-Wolfe’s career as a fashion photographer. Featuring a large selection of her work for Harper’s Bazaar where she worked for two decades, the book also highlights portraits and nudes, an aspect of Dahl-Wolfe’s work that has been largely overlooked. During her time at Harper’s Bazaar, she published more than 600 colour and 300 black and white photographs and 86 front covers.

In 1938 Dahl-Wolfe was sent to Hollywood to photograph stars of the silver screen. She returned to Hollywood regularly and it was here that she was able to break the mould of cliché portraits experimenting with light and location, and compiling a significant archive of photography containing  playwrights, composers, artists, film directors and writers.
